Family Portrait Session

July 23, 2009

I first met Cindy & Russ last summer at a neighborhood BBQ. So Cindy called me up to see if I was able to come and do some family portraits for them and her extended family. Her sister was having a birthday, and all seven of the siblings were together. It was a bit of a shame that the weather prevented us from having the session outdoors, but Cindy’s home is huge and easily could accommodate the group of about 20 people. We did some big groups, small groups, individuals, and even some fun shots. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

Engagement Photography Session

I was shooting Nessira and Kyle out by the lake, as I often do, since it is a great location and very close by. Kyle and Nessira have a great sense of humor, and I really enjoyed working with them. I look forward to the wedding. What a gorgeous couple.

Family Portrait Photography Onsite

I enjoy the fact that I am able to take my ’show on the road’ so to speak. By that, I mean I like making portraits of people on location in settings or with things that are of significance to them. Aside from making the portrait more personal, it also tends to give the subject more comfort while doing what many consider to be an uncomfortable thing (having photos done). So such was the case with the Purkis familiy Who wanted a portrait done with the car that was just finished being built. Mrs. Purkis planned this event ahead of time, knowing that while her family was all together it would be a great time to have their portraits taken. Her son, his wife and their 2 kids are now living out East, and her other son is in Calgary. So having them all together again will be a rare event. I know my 5 Aunts and Uncles on my Dad’s side of the family make jokes that the next time they are all together again there will only be 4 of them. It is easy enough to stay in touch via the web and telephone, but actually getting the family together in person is a precious event.

Edmonton Family Photographer

April 27, 2009

Casual portraitI went to do an in home family portrait session today way up on the north end of Edmonton. As usual, I had a great time making some wonderful images for the family, and making a new friend. I was trying to get a nice photo of an ‘I’m tired of having my pictures taken’ boy who is just about 2 years old. Fortunately, like everyone else in my family, he seemed to like it when I pretended to get injured. We were having a pillow fight with the cushions from the couch, and he would laugh and laugh when I would ‘accidentally’ drop the cushion on my own head as a cocked it back to throw at him. Somehow with all these shenanniggans, I was able to get some great expressions. I even brought the cushions into the kitchen where I set up a makeshift studio to do the family portraits to hold his attention. Thank you for the fun day, I see you have already marked 10 images as favorites in your online gallery. That is great.
